In this curated vacation edition, the author shares a thoughtful selection of media, personal reading lists, and road-trip reflections covering human resilience, media strategy, organizational history, and content creation integrity.

Media Highlights: Relentless Effort and Strategic Mastery

The author highlights two standout media pieces: a compelling YouTube mini-documentary about a Chinese programmer-turned-courier relentlessly working to build a better life while keeping an optimistic outlook, and MrBeast’s interview on the Joe Rogan podcast. Donaldson’s decade-long evolution from amateur teenager to media mogul showcases transparent knowledge-sharing and the compounding value of continuous mastery.

Curated Articles: Modern Dilemmas and Timeless Solutions

Four curated essays offer practical life and business wisdom:

• Lighten Your Grip: Explores the balance between pushing hard for results and relaxing excessive control to prevent burnout.
• The Monks in the Casino: Derek Thompson’s analysis of how younger generations are healthier (less alcohol and smoking) yet suffer from a 70% decline in social interactions.
• From Hierarchy to Intelligence: How the Roman army solved modern corporate coordination problems long before modern management theory existed.
• The Right Kind of Stubborn: Differentiating between constructive persistence and knowing when to quit dead-end pursuits.

Exploring Lower Silesia and Shifting Travel Paradigms

Following a recent relocation to Lower Silesia, the author explores five history books to uncover the region’s complex post-WWII history before engaging directly with locals and museums. Concurrently, a road trip across the Dolomites and Central Europe led to the realization that Poland has rapidly closed the gap with Western Europe in infrastructure, culture, and quality of life, making domestic exploration increasingly appealing.

Creator Integrity Over Mass Reach

Reflecting on newsletter metrics, the author acknowledges the temptation to produce light, viral topics. However, he reaffirms a commitment to writing the highest-quality, most honest newsletter possible rather than diluting content to maximize audience size.

Mentoring question

In your current goals, are you holding on too tightly to a rigid plan, and how might ‘lightening your grip’ improve your effectiveness and well-being?
